I know this isn’t the usual type of blog post I would write … but one of the hats I wear is as half of the YouTuber Mum & Me Gaming duo! And I’m just a little bit excited, because we have an awesome event happening these school holidays and it’s the first time the other half of my duo will step out from behind the camera to help run this event!
Our YouTube channel is called Mum & Me Gaming, and as the name suggests, it is me being guided by my daughter around the world of Minecraft. I’ve only been playing for a year, and I’m still what you’d call a “noob”. My code name is The Chicken Queen, and my daughter is The Architect … and boy does she know waaaaaaay more than I do! There are usually laughs at my expense on our weekly videos LOL.
We are so grateful to Home Care Heroes for sponsoring this event, and Youth Connections (particularly their Transcendence program staff) for hosting this event … they are definately making it much cooler than it could possibly be with just us running the show!
So … on the day we will have gaming PC’s set up for some serious Minecraft fun, as well as a few iPads, and a console gaming area set up for those who might want to play something a bit different. The Architect has come up with some fun activities, plus there’s plenty of time for free play on the day. As much as I’d love to be playing Minecraft with the kids, instead I will be chatting with the parents & carers, talking about the educational benefits of Minecraft, why our kids like it so much, and introducing them to our 2 favourite NDIS approved service providers. Maybe I can even tempt some of them to have a go at Minecraft 😉
This is an excellent opportunity for our Minecraft mad teens to meet other local kids with similar interests in a fun social setting, and for parents & carers to meet each other and have some time to chat with other adults (I don’t know about you, but I don’t get to do that nearly as much as I’d like to!).
I’m still putting together some awesome goodie bags for our participants, and some information for the parents & carers. I’ll also be baking up a storm on Tuesday so we have some home-made treats to fuel us all on the day.
The event is being held at Youth Connections ‘Green Central’ headquarters at Kariong on Wednesday 27th September, from 10-11:30am, and tickets are $15. Parents & carers do not require a ticket 🙂
