All week I will be featuring the gorgeous Painted Rose stamp set by Concord & 9th, showing different techniques and ideas to get the most from this flexible stamp set (and matching die set). The only stamping I used in this project was black ink on white cardstock and you could use any of your lovely sentiments to create a crisp background like this.
In today’s video I’m going to show you how I used Distress Ink dipping with the rose outline stamp to create a paper pieced fussy cut feature rose. I also took away the need for a neat matted sentiment by creating the background using a single sentiment stamp.
LESSON 4 – When you can’t find quite the right background for your feature stamp, why not turn the background into a great big sentiment with repeat stamping to create an all-over design! You could create a stack of sentiment backgrounds for a variety of different occasions, add them to card bases, and create quick cards by pairing them with colourful die-cuts, stickers or stamped images that you coloured earlier. Sometimes I like to colour on the go, and this is the perfect way to use those images, because you don’t have to colour match them to anything!
The first thing I did was make a mess with Distress Inks and a spray bottle … my goodness that was fun! I will show you how layering up Distress Inks can create a fun background for your outline stamps (and how I put a little shimmer in it).
The second thing I did was to create a custom background using a single sentiment stamp from the Painted Rose stamp set. This was one of those times I said thank you to past Dawn for buying me a stamp positioning tool … it was really helpful to get the words lined up just so.
I wanted to see how this looked in a landscape orientation with a different colour scheme, and I learned an important lesson whilst doing the sentiment background panel. I’ll share that lesson in the video, and you can find photos and the materials list for the bonus card a little further down.
