All week I will be featuring the gorgeous Painted Rose stamp set by Concord & 9th, showing different techniques and ideas to get the most from this flexible stamp set (and matching die set). I love background stamps, but I confess to feeling a little bit like they’re not living up to their full potential when they’re limited to backgrounds only.
In today’s video I’m going to show you how I did layered stamping … but not the layered stamping that you might be expecting. No … I did not use the 2nd detail layer stamp, but I did use a gorgeous Darkroom Door background stamp (Abstract Triangles) to create a funky geometric rose using the kissing technique.
LESSON 6 –Utilise stamps with great patterns on them with the kissing technique by pairing them with more solid stamps. This looks amazing on this card as a bit hero stamp, but you could also create custom backgrounds by repeating this process stamping all over a card panel. You can stamp tone on tone, or colour clash like I did here. If you dry your first layer well, you could do the kiss stamp layer with clear embossing ink, add a metallic embossing powder and heat set it for a fun effect.
The first thing I did was choose colours that I knew from previous experience were going to work well together for this effect. Distress Oxide inks stamp nicely, and dried quickly enough that I didn’t need to heat set them in between layers.
The second thing I did was to choose a patterned stamp that would stand out, and was suitably scaled for this project.

Distress Inks – Candied Apple + Picked Raspberry + Cracked Pistachio + Peacock Feathers
I can’t stop thinking of stamps I could use to do this kiss-stamping technique … I see a lot of these cards in my future!
